Common Gynecologic Conditions You Shouldn’t Ignore

Women make up over 50% of the population in Madison. Therefore, Madison gynecology is essential. A woman’s body goes through various stages of development throughout their reproductive life. Different health issues may arise at different points. Common gynecologic problems include:

Yeast Infections

Yeast infections are some of the most common gynecologic problems. Three in four women experience it at some point in their lifetime. You get a vaginal yeast infection when the yeast cells in your bacteria overgrow. You are likely to get one if you have uncontrolled bacteria, are on antibiotics, or when you are pregnant. Other factors that may increase your likelihood of getting yeast infections include wearing the wrong underwear and feminine hygiene sprays.

Irregular Bleeding

Menstrual periods last an average of five days. While it is normal to have a heavy flow a few times, some women lose too much blood. If you experience heavy bleeding for multiple days in a row, you should see your gynecologist as soon as possible. It is especially important to seek help if your periods are accompanied with cramping or clots. Your treatment may include prescription drugs or surgery.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a condition characterized by excessive pain during your periods. The endometrial tissues may grow outside the uterus, instead of inside where they are supposed to be. During your periods, they break apart and bleed. Symptoms of endometriosis include heavy menstrual periods, pain during intercourse, pain with bowel movements, and infertility. It is often mistaken with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and ovarian cysts.

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are muscle nodules that develop in your uterine walls. Even though they are not cancerous, they can have many side effects, including infertility, frequent urination, and pain during menstruation. The treatment may vary from anti-inflammatory drugs to hysterectomy.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual cycles. Their bodies may have high levels of androgen, which is a male hormone. There may be follicles on the ovaries hindering the release of eggs. Some symptoms of PCOS include infertility issues, acne, obesity, and diabetes.

Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is a condition that may be divided into two main categories: primary and secondary dysmenorrhea. With primary dysmenorrhea, you experience painful periods but no pelvic diseases. Secondary dysmenorrhea, on the other hand, is associated with pelvic disorders. It may be caused by endometriosis, fibroids, or adenomyosis. Its main symptom is severe abdominal pain and cramping, which may extend to your lower back.

Dyspareunia

Women with the condition experience pain during sex. Its main causes include a thick hymen, vulval infection, and vaginitis. The appropriate treatment depends on the cause of the problem.

Vaginitis

All women within the reproductive age bracket may get vaginitis. The condition causes vaginal inflammation. It may be caused by sexual intercourse, antibiotic drugs, and hormonal changes. Its symptoms include pain when peeing, a foul-smelling vaginal discharge, and vaginal irritation.

All women should schedule regular appointments with their gynecologists. The appointments have numerous benefits including help with birth control, breast examination, pelvic exam, and urinary-related issues.

If you suspect that you may have any gynecologic issues, discuss them on your next appointment. Early treatment increases your likelihood of success.
