How to Start Getting Healthy

There are various factors involved with the overall health of a person. So, the first you need to do if you want to get healthy is to decide which areas you want to focus on.

The main five areas of health include physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual. A lot of the time people are referring to their physical and emotional health when they make New Year’s resolutions of getting healthy.

If you want to feel healthier in terms of your social wellbeing then you might want to join some clubs and find some new friends. Whereas, if you want to feel intellectually healthy, then you might decide to learn something new and try a course.

But how do you take care of your emotional and physical health? It’s not that difficult to do, it just takes a few conscious decisions and plenty of dedication to your goals.

After working out which area you want to work on, you also need to write down short term and long term goals. These will help you keep track of your progress and will help you to stay determined and focused on what it is you want.

Once you’ve set your goals you might want to prepare the finer details on how you’re going to reach them. For example, if you plan to lose weight then you might decide to join a gym and schedule in hours into your calendar when you can go.

7 Key Tips on How to Be Healthy

How to become healthy is all about the way you look, feel, and think. If you only think negative thoughts about your body while trying to lose weight, then you’ll never feel like you’ve become healthy or reached your goals.

1. Be Conscious of What You’re Eating

Being healthy also requires some thinking before you act. For example, you might be in the habit of getting home from work and snacking on fatty foods instead of making a healthy meal. To break a habit like this you need to stop and think about what you’re doing and if it is helping.

A good way to be conscious of what you eat during the week is to keep a diary and record everything you eat. A good way to break bad habits such as binge eating fatty foods is by setting meal times and filling your plate up with non-starchy vegetables.

2. Eat Less

A lot of people aren’t actually aware when they are full up, so if you want to become healthier make sure you give yourself less food. A good way to eat less is by giving yourself a smaller plate or bowl and not filling it up too much. Eating from a smaller plate can trick your brain into thinking that you are full.

3. Eat More Fruit

Eating more fruit is a great way for you to become healthier. Switch your morning breakfast of cereal for some yogurt and fruit. The vitamins and minerals in fruit can help you start your day properly and give you the energy you need to last until lunchtime without needing to have any snacks.

4. Increase Your Fatty Fish Intake

Fatty fish, such as salmon, herring, and mackerel are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to keep your risk of heart disease low. Omega-3 fatty acids are also good for helping improve your mental health.

Not only are fatty fish full of omega-3, but they are also packed with B vitamins. B vitamins are great for giving your brain energy and maintaining a healthy brain and nerve function in your body. Try to eat at least two servings of fatty fish a week.

5. Drink Green Tea

Drinking green tea is full of nutrients and antioxidants, which can help your body fight free radicals (which are molecules that have been shown to increase disease risk and speed aging).

Green tea contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and caffeine, which are two compounds that have been linked to boosting a person’s metabolism. Having a better metabolism can help a person lose weight quicker.

6. Switch Unhealthy Snacks for Healthy Ones

Food cravings are natural, sometimes you might feel hungrier than other days, so you should allow yourself to eat something. If you know that you’re likely to snack at work or when you’re at home, make sure you have healthy snacks instead of unhealthy ones.

For example, you might usually take chocolate and biscuits to work but you might choose to take some fruit or carrot sticks in instead. But you don’t always have to eat healthily, for example, if the office has a cake every Friday then you can treat yourself every once in a while.

7. Take Supplements

If for any reason you don’t think that your body is getting enough nutrients, vitamins, or minerals from your food, then why not add in some supplements to your daily routine?

For example, if your doctor has said that you need to have more iron in your diet, then you might choose to take a supplement every day to help improve the iron in your body.

If you want to prevent the contamination of bacteria when you take your medicine, you should buy bacteriostatic water. Talk to your doctor about whether using bacteriostatic water can help you.
